Hi! I'm Foto! Well… not really.
I'm actually a retired technology executive and photographer, but Foto is the curious, risk-taking little monkey who's been riding around in my head for years—the one who's constantly asking, "I wonder what's down that road?" or "What happens if we try it this way instead?"
Eventually, I stopped arguing with him and gave him his own website.
Welcome to FotoMunki.
If you've stumbled across this little corner of the internet, you're probably wondering what it's all about.
The short answer is that it's a photography website. The longer answer begins with a motorcycle ride—but that's a story for another Journal entry.
For most of my life, I worked in the technology industry. Like a lot of people, I spent decades building a career, raising a family, paying the mortgage, and squeezing photography into whatever free time I could find.
Photography wasn't my profession, but it was always the thing that reminded me who I was.
When an early retirement opportunity came along, it gave me something I hadn't had in years: time.
I launched a wedding and family portrait business, continued selling stock photography, and began entering international photography competitions. To my surprise, some of my images started winning awards and appearing in exhibitions around the world.
But I also realized something else.
As much as I enjoyed portrait photography, I loved wandering city streets with a camera, exploring rugged coastlines, experimenting with fine art, and traveling somewhere new simply because I'd never been there before.
I didn't want to choose just one kind of photography.
So I didn't.
FotoMunki became my creative playground—a place where I could follow my curiosity instead of someone else's expectations.
Here you'll find street, travel, fine art, black-and-white, and landscape photography. You'll also find the occasional image that makes you tilt your head and wonder, "What exactly am I looking at?"
Along the way I'll share the stories behind the photographs, adventures exploring Northern California by motorcycle, travel experiences, behind-the-scenes moments, and a few lessons I've picked up along the way.
There's also a bigger idea behind all of this—one that's shaped not only my photography, but how I try to experience life. I'll save that conversation for future Journal entries.
For now, I'm just glad you're here.
If you're someone who enjoys discovering new places, seeing things from a different perspective, or simply appreciates a good photograph, I hope you'll stick around.
