Hi! I'm Foto, the monkey behind the lens.

Exploring the world one ride, one street, and one photograph at a time.

More about me...

What's my story?

I’m a former Silicon Valley technology executive who took an early retirement opportunity to pursue a lifelong passion for photography.

What began as a business focused on weddings and family portraits eventually expanded into stock photography, where I was fortunate to have my images featured on book covers, in magazines, on posters, and in advertising campaigns around the world.

Over time, my interests evolved. Today, I spend most of my creative energy exploring street, travel, fine art, and black-and-white photography—the genres that challenge me to see the world differently and continually push my creativity in new directions.

Along the way, I’ve entered a number of international photography competitions and have been honored by the recognition my work has received. My photographs have earned awards and been exhibited in galleries and publications across Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America, including London, Barcelona, Vietnam, South Africa, Greece, Mexico, Philippines, Hungary, and cities throughout the United States.

At this stage of life, photography is less about building a career and more about embracing curiosity, creative reinvention, and the joy of discovering what’s around the next corner.

Why FotoMunki?

Photography has always been my way of exploring the world. Sometimes that exploration leads to bustling city streets, sometimes to distant destinations, quiet moments, abstract ideas, or the timeless simplicity of black and white. I never know exactly what will capture my attention next—and that’s part of the fun.

While I still occasionally photograph portraits, I created FotoMunki as a separate, more anonymous space where the focus can remain on the work itself rather than the person behind the camera.

Most photography websites are built around a niche. Conventional wisdom says photographers should specialize in a single genre and develop a recognizable style. That’s sound advice—but FotoMunki was never meant to follow a formula.

FotoMunki is my creative playground: a place where curiosity matters more than categories, where exploration matters more than expectations, and where every photograph is simply part of an ongoing journey of discovery.

Photography & Motorcycles?

For me, photography and motorcycles are really about the same thing: exploration.

I’ve loved motorcycles since I was young, but I stepped away from riding for nearly three decades while building a career and raising a family. With the kids grown and retirement opening a new chapter, it felt like the right time to rediscover an old passion.

Riding has become more than a hobby. It’s a way to explore the back roads of Northern California, discover places I might otherwise overlook, and experience the world at a different pace. A motorcycle encourages spontaneity—you can pull over whenever something catches your eye, take a photograph, and continue wherever the road leads.

There’s also a surprising connection between riding and photography. Both require focus and awareness in the moment, yet somehow create space for reflection. Some of my best ideas—and my favorite photographs—have emerged somewhere between the destination and the journey.

And yes, my wife recently started riding too—on a scooter, at least. I’m still patiently waiting for the day she breaks the 25 mph speed barrier.

In the end, FotoMunki isn’t really about motorcycles or any particular style of photography. It’s about staying curious, embracing reinvention, and finding beauty wherever the journey happens to take me.

Do you still do weddings & portrait work?

Yes—occasionally. While I've significantly scaled back my portrait business, I still enjoy working with families to capture life's important moments, whether it's a special event, milestone, or family portrait.

thoughts from the road

Riding a motorcycle has a way of sharpening your focus while clearing your mind for reflection—on life, family, friendships, choices made, and roads not taken.  Browse the Philosophy filter in my Journal to discover the reflections from the road that have shaped the FotoMunki Philosophy.
